Some evenings remind you why industry events are worth showing up for. The MRCA Chinese New Year Gala Dinner 2026 was one of them.
Under the theme “Golden Spring of Giving,” Malaysia’s retail community gathered for a night that felt less like a formal dinner and more like a reunion with purpose. Founders, business leaders, and solution partners filled the room with a mix of festive warmth and genuine excitement about what lies ahead for retail in Malaysia.
The standout moment came from Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, who spoke candidly about why digital transformation can no longer be a “someday” agenda for Malaysian businesses. With consumers becoming more connected by the day, the message was clear: businesses that embrace digital tools now will be the ones shaping the industry’s next chapter, not catching up to it.
For SMEs in particular, the opportunity feels real and urgent. Programmes are already in motion to help businesses adopt the right technologies and accelerate their digitalisation journey. The Minister’s enthusiasm made it clear this is a national priority, and the retail community in the room seemed to feel that weight and excitement in equal measure.
It was a timely reminder that the shift happening in retail isn’t just about technology for technology’s sake. It’s about staying relevant to customers whose expectations and habits continue to evolve. Whether it’s how people discover products, how they choose where to shop, or how they stay loyal to the brands they love, the rules are being rewritten and businesses that move with intention will be the ones that come out ahead.
Beyond the speeches, what made the evening memorable was simply the people in the room. There’s something valuable about stepping away from the day-to-day and sitting across the table from others who are navigating the same landscape, asking the same questions, and working toward the same goal of building a stronger retail industry in Malaysia.
Retailers, technology providers, and partners sharing one space and one conversation. That’s what MRCA does well, and this gala was a great example of it.
As an associate member of MRCA, Eber is proud to be part of this community. Customer engagement and loyalty in modern retail sit at the heart of what we do, and nights like these reinforce why the relationship between retail and technology matters so much. Being in the room isn’t just about visibility. It’s about staying close to the conversations that shape where the industry is heading.
The evening was a celebration of the Lunar New Year, yes, but it was also something more. A reminder that Malaysia’s retail ecosystem is made up of people who genuinely care about where things are going and are willing to show up, connect, and build together.
Here’s to a year of growth, collaboration, and a little bit of that Golden Spring energy!
